gesture4

gesture4 is a live art project featuring four of Canada’s most audacious creators:

Noam Gagnon (dance), Jamie Griffiths (visual art), Viviane Houle (vocals) & Stefan Smulovitz (laptop and viola).

First performed in Vancouver on June 1 & 2, 2007 gesture4 is a rich and multifaceted exploration of gestures physical, sacred and creative. Starting with the question “What is gesture?” the four artists use music, video and movement as the raw materials for a work of Live Art that becomes increasingly visceral throughout its three sections.

Existential Angst Party (EAP)

Sublime songs of sundry status

tunes | improvised songs | weird stuff

Jazz, punk rock, improvised music, folk, opera and cabaret are all guests whenever Existential Angst Party hits the stage. With their captivating grooves EAP moves easily through sublime songs and improvisations that will move you, confuse you, shock you, and soothe you, but never lull you to sleep.

Featuring the powerful and gorgeous vocals of Viviane Houle, the sublime and strange sounds of former SNFU guitarist Brent Belke, the inventive and fearless bass playing of Clyde Reed and the lush viola and demented laptop of Stefan Smulovitz, EAP is one party you just won’t want to miss.

TWIXT

Featuring Viviane Houle (vocals) & Jeff Younger (guitar)

Vocalist Viviane Houle and guitarist Jeff Younger are TWIXT. Performing as a duo and with invited guests, they explore the realms of free improvisation, improvised song and written song to pierce and shred you with gentle balladry of the heart. Live, this group is always an adventure, threatening to turn from a rainbow into the monster in your closet in a single breath. Or maybe it is a rainbow in there… no, really, just open the door and find out… it'll probably be really happy to see you… just turn the handle…
