SoundOut: Explorations in Voice, Sound and Deep Listening This workshop allows you to explore and find your own unique voice and sound vocabulary through deep listening meditation, voice play, dream work, gentle movement exercises, and sonic composition. You do not need to be a musician or an experienced singer to enjoy the benefit from these practices. You only need to bring your ears, your voice, and a sense of curiosity about sound – your own, within a group, and in the larger environment. Viviane believes that finding your own unique sound and voice is inherently rewarding and healing. Her approach to voice fosters a deep connection to one’s own body, dreams, sonic environment, and nature. A genuine and gentle curiosity about the full possibilities of vocal expression guides the workshop. ............................................................. Deep Listening Workshops Viviane has been studying with acclaimed composer, teacher, and improviser Pauline Oliveros for the past two years. She is in the process of completing a certification program which will enable her to teach Deep Listening Workshops. In 2006, Viviane traveled to New Mexico for a one week intensive with Pauline Oliveros. In 2007, she continued her studies online with Pauline as well as attending a second retreat in New York. Currently she is incorporating Deep Listening practices and techniques into her private and group vocal instruction. Once she has completed her certification she will also be offering Deep Listening Workshops. “Deep Listening® is a philosophy and practice developed by Pauline Oliveros that distinguishes the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary selective nature of listening. The result of the practice cultivates appreciation of sounds on a heightened level, expanding the potential for connection and interaction with one's environment, technology and performance with others in music and related arts. The practice of Deep Listening provides a framework for artistic collaboration and musical improvisation and gives composers, performers, artists of other disciplines, and audiences new tools to explore and interact with environmental and instrumental sounds.” (from deeplistening.org) For more information on Deep Listening and Pauline Oliveros’ work go to: |
